KC ONER INTERVIEW

©2001 @149st Do not republish without permission.

When and where did you start writing on trains?
In 1976 I was in the seventh grade. Me and DOC from TC5 used to go to school together, and we used to draw a lot back then. We were coming home from school one day when we saw two guys doing pieces on the baseball bleachers of our projects. The two guys were FORK and VICE from Far Rockaway. We showed them a little over what we can do and, they were impressed by how much us little dudes knew. They told us to keep it up...we wore the future and by what we know then, there was no one going to stop us. I can't meet writers and bomb on my own to yards and layups. Then I told DOC again and again to come with me to the A yards, until he finally came and there grew our partnership.

Did you have a mentor?
A mentor no, but there were a lot of writers I admired back then. Like DYNAMITE 149, RONZEL, F99, DEKSTER, 00 ONE, VINNY, IZ THE WIZ, SIKO, KICK, to me those names were everywhere. I did not know "Kings" per se but to me they were up.

How did you get your name?
Growing up in a predominantly black neighborhood was rough for a white looking Puerto Rican with long hair. I used to write CHINO and I got in a lot of fights back then with guys who said I resembled KC and the sunshine band's lead singer. A girl told me she thought it was cute so I kept it. To this day I can not remember the girl's name. ONER I added back when the buff came strong and I got greedy for Êboards. I used to write stuff like, kconerocityards or KCONEROCIZMSTER. You get the idea! To this day I can say without argument that I was the first "ONER".

What lines have you hit ?
I was basically an A line writer, but when you meet as many writers as I have, you tend to branch out even if for a short time. I've hit the 2s and 5 lines with TVS. I've hit the J and LL with CIA, TVS, SIS, LOC. I've hit the F line with G.O.D. RR with D.O.G. N.Y.C. took me to the B line and D lines. So you see I've gotten to hit mad yards and mad lines even if I didn't king them all. The A line was TBC country.

What borough and street you are originally from?
Cypress Hill projects East New York Brooklyn.

What crews have you written for?
If I've forgotten anyone please forgive a brother... TBC, CIA, TOP, TRUC, JHF, OTB, SIS, TPA, DOG, GOD, TC5, TVS, BMT, PIC, BUS, BAD, CNA, RVR, TPC, CF, LOC, TNV, TNS, USA, TCV, NYC, TMB, they are many more but many years many crews, can't remember all.

Lists all the names which you are known.

Do you have any good raid stories?
Once bus crew and I were bombing in the A yard and we were getting chased on top of the trains when we hear K 64 fall off from the top of the train and land on the gravel. To this day he has holes in his butt. I always knew when it was good to bomb or not. I rarely got chased and never got caught.
