The One Tunnel

THE ONE TUNNEL

The One Tunnel is virtually an underground yard. It is located between 137th street and 145th Street on the 1 line in Harlem. It houses IRT 1s and 3s. On both sides of the two center service tracks are several track lanes in which trains are parked.

It is perhaps the most infamous location in New York City graffiti history. The One Tunnel was one of the first lay-ups in which writers painted subway cars. It was the birthplace of some of the most significant paintings of New York City graffiti's transit era. Many accidents and violent altercations occurred there as well.
